Abstract

In a democratic country, political participation is a fundamental requirement. It is assumed that political participation is influenced by the level of education. Based on this background, the research problem is whether there is a correlation between the level of education and political participation, and what is the profile of political participation in the community of Kedondong Village, Gajah Subdistrict, Demak Regency. The objectives are to determine whether there is a correlation between the level of education and political participation in Kedondong Village, Gajah Subdistrict, Demak Regency, and to understand the profile of political participation in the community of Kedondong Village, Gajah Subdistrict, Demak Regency. The population in this study consists of 3,246 individuals, with a sample size of 68 people, selected using the area sampling technique. There are two variables in this study: independent and dependent variables.

The research findings indicate that (1) There is a relationship between the level of education and political participation in the community of Kedondong Village, Gajah Subdistrict, Demak Regency. This is evidenced by the calculation results, with a serial coefficient (r ser) of 0.71494, which is higher than the product moment correlation coefficient at both the 5% and 1% levels. (2) The profile of political participation in the community of Kedondong Village, Gajah Subdistrict, Demak Regency is influenced by the level of education. However, the background of participating in elections, reasons for voting in elections, and the use of voting rights are not affected by the level of education.

The study suggests that since education influences political participation in the community of Kedondong Village, Gajah Subdistrict, Demak Regency, it is necessary to raise awareness among the community about the importance of school education for their children. Additionally, the village officials of Kedondong Village, Gajah Subdistrict, Demak Regency should further motivate the community, especially those with basic education, to actively participate through socialization and political cadre training.
